Uploading images for use in custom fields

Inserting images into posts is easy, sometimes inserting images via a custom field can be a bit tricky. Well not with our themes! Its actually pretty simple. There are two ways this can be achieved. Either works just as well.

When you are uploading images, please be aware of the structure of the folders and how this can affect your custom field images. If your unsure as to how to structure your folders, please see this tutorial on keeping your uploads folder organized for custom fields

UPLOADING VIA THE POST EDITOR

When you are writing a post, there is no need to leave the post editor page to add a custom image. Simply click on the image icon and continue to upload the image all the way to the end of the process. Once the image is uploaded you will be presented with the familiar image details editor (as in the image below)

When this page appears, DO NOT press “Insert into Post” instead just make a note of the images name and then click “Save All Changes” The image is now correctly uploaded and ready to be added into a custom field.

UPLOADING VIA THE MEDIA MENU

If you would rather, you can upload images directly from the Media menu in Wordpress. Go to Media from the main menu then Add New and upload your images in exactly the same way as you normally would. Once uploaded its done….simple!

ONCE YOU HAVE UPLOADED YOUR IMAGE

Once you have uploaded your image and made a note of the name you are ready to use that image in a custom field. Please see this tutorial on custom field images if your not sure how to do this.
